Convenience Store

Good News.....as of June 21, 2013, the gas station and convenience store are open!!  The gas pumps should accept King Soopers' cards in the next week or so.  Stop by to welcome "Nick" to the neighborhood!

MCGC Neighbors spoke with "Nick", the owner of Nick's Food | Gas | Liquor, the convenience store being built at the corner of Gun Club Road and the Gun Club connector to get information about the store. The project will have a Shell gas station with 6 pumps, a Shell convenience store, and a liquor store.

The convenience store will be 2,500 square feet, and the liquor store will be 2,200 square feet with a separate entrance.  Initial plans call for the store to be open from 5:00 a.m. until midnight and employ 5 or 6 people.

Before a liquor license can be granted, notice of the public hearing must be given at least one month prior to the hearing.  HOAs and Neighborhood Groups within 2,000 feet of the store must be notified.  MCGC Neighbors received our notice on March 14, 2013.

The city’s Local Licensing Authority sets the date and conducts the public hearing, at which time the applicant, or his representative, and any witnesses and/or protesters may appear.  The Public Hearing was set for Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 9:00 AM, at the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 East Alameda Parkway, Aurora, CO.

At the hearing, the applicant must present sufficient evidence to establish that 1) there is a need in the neighborhood for the liquor license and 2) the adult inhabitants of the neighborhood desire that the license be granted.  As a part of showing approval from the neighborhood, the applicant typically asks residents in the area to sign a petition.

The liquor license was approved at the public hearing on April 16, 2013.

As of June 5, 2013, "Nick" is just waiting for Xcel Energy to connect the power.  Once that is done, he will begin stocking shelves in preparation for opening in a couple of weeks.

Also, the dirt pile behind the store should be leveled and moved to areas further behind the store in the next few days.
