Section 146-1207 - Oil and Gas Facilities

This section of the City code was modified in 2012 to "...facilitate the development of oil and gas resources within the city limits and to mitigate potential land use conflicts between oil and gas development and existing and planned land uses."

Presumably, due to the large number of well permits expected, and the fact that, by law, the oil and gas industry can't be denied the right to drill, this process was set up to declare a well site to be a permitted use in "...any zone district, provided the exterior boundary of such site or facility is more than 1000 feet from a platted residential lot, city-owned park, reservoir, open space, or golf course, and the use complies with the requirements of this section."

Such a permitted use is allowed to be processed by the director of planning, without review by the Planning Commission with a public hearing.  more...

Groundwater Sampling and Setback Rules

The Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) is currently working on establishing new and amended rules for Statewide Groundwater Sampling and Monitoring and Statewide Setbacks and Aesthetics and Noise Control.

Murphy Creek Concerned Citizens, a committee established by MCGC Neighbors, has Party Status regarding the above rules.  Party Status entitles our group to present and submit alternative rules to the COGCC.  If you are concerned about or interested in these fracking-related issues and would like to be included on this committee and potentially influence these rules, please contact Linda Deebel.
Oil and Gas Updates

Murphy Creek resident, Kim Smith, has been appointed to the Oil and Gas Committee and will be providing us with updates and developments. If you have questions you would like Kim to take to the Committee, please email her at knewtonsmith@hotmail.com. Also, please use the MCGC Bulletin Board to chat with Kim and other Murphy Creek residents.

Our Community

Murphy Creek is located near E-470 and Jewell Avenue in Southeast Aurora. Our beautiful community was established in 2002 and is built around the Nationally Recognized Championship Golf Course of Murphy Creek. This Master Planned, Covenant Controlled Community currently enjoys quiet streets and a clear view of the night sky.

In addition to the strong sense of community fostered by the residents involved in Murphy Creek Golf Course Neighbors (MCGC), our community also has:  an active HOA Social Committee that plans fun activities for residents of all ages; the Murphy Creek Tavern in the middle of the neighborhood that is open to the public; a Community Center available for neighborhood events and private parties; tennis courts; and a Kindergarten through 8th grade school right here in the neighborhood. The fire station for several neighborhoods along the E-470 corridor is also centrally located in our neighborhood.

At Murphy Creek we say, "It's more than a place to live....it's a lifestyle."

MCGC Neighbors/Murphy Creek HOA
What's the Difference?

MCGC Neighbors is the Neighborhood Group in Murphy Creek, not to be confused with the Murphy Creek HOA.  As a registered Neighborhood Group, we receive notification of proposed future developments near Murphy Creek, and we keep the Community informed via our weekly email News Blast and this website.

Our group organized in the summer of 2011, in response to the HOA's disregard of community opinion regarding the RV/Boat Storage project.   Even though we were unsuccessful in stopping that project, we saw an ongoing need for this organization, so we developed a more formalized structure and established a nonprofit corporation.  We welcome your input and participation!

The HOA, through the management company, handles the collection of fee assessments, the enforcement of covenants, the distribution of pool cards, and the funding of the Social Committee and Community Garden.  The HOA is also responsible for publishing the monthly hard-copy newsletter.
